Rodolfo, the artist, and Llópiz, the baroque painter and colorist, of Cuban descent and with Italian experience. Is never in a hurry, is calm, serene, quiet and loves wisecracks like "If your illness can't be cured, what are you worried about, if your illness can be cured, what are you worried about? That's what he always says when someone complains. Llópiz does not know, or even suspect, that this verdict is based on Catholic acquiescence. Rodolfo ignores the burden he has carried for so many centuries, for so many generations.

Because he owes this to Mother Earth and to his deceased great-grandfathers. He adorns himself with protective necklaces, spreads the drink for the sacrifice on the ground, flees into the mysterious air of his blood and surrenders with Cuban pride to the wicked deity. Rodolfo, exquisite wielder of images, juggler of pigment, collector of whimsical ideas, perfect executor of graphic concepts, friendly friend and happily in love despite his doubts.
