Kinga Wieczorek finds it rather difficult to put herself in any one box. She paints mainly realistically and figuratively, but sometimes she departs from that. She used to prefer not to paint portraits. Now, however, she is fascinated by people, by their personality and their soul. Although she keeps returning to painting landscapes, still lifes and animals, women often appear in her work as well.
By nature Kinga Wieczorek is someone curious about life. She experiments with different drawing and painting techniques, and with themes and moods as well.
I was born on 25 July 1988 in Nowy Tomyśl and grew up in Zbąszyń, Poland. Art was part of my life from childhood. I had only one dream — to be an artist — and I did everything to achieve it.
In 2008 I graduated cum laude from the Lyceum of Fine Arts in Zielona Góra.
My specialisation was visual advertising, painting and art history, and I obtained the professional title of visual artist.
Between 2009 and 2016 I had a steady connection with “Galeria Pretekst” in Kraków (Poland). In 2016 my work was used for the Polish film “The Art of Loving. Story of Michalina Wisłocka”.
In between, I decided to move to the Netherlands and start all over again. I found a place of my own in Zaandam, where my studio is also based. And it is here that I chose to become officially Dutch.
In Zaandam I have exhibited several times at venues such as Het Weefhuis, Galerie Zaansgroen and Galerie Playroom. I also took part in the national exhibition ‘Het weekend van het portret’ in 2020 and 2022. My work has been shown in Luxembourg and Belgium as well. My works are spread all over the world, including Germany, Poland, France, the USA, Mexico and Australia.
Besides creating art and teaching at primary schools and at various organisations such as Fluxus (the centre for the arts in Zaanstad) and Feaz (a foundation offering workshops for schools, childcare centres and community centres in the Amsterdam region), I am also active in organising.
Since 2019 I have been preparing exhibitions and small events at Café Fabriek in Zaandam, now and then in collaboration with other organisations such as Tengel, Galerie Playroom or Monet Atelier.
Since 2020 I have been a board member (first as secretary, and since the end of 2022 as vice-chair) of Stichting Tengel — the Zaan platform for visual artists in the Zaan region, which brings the artistic activities and work of Zaan artists to the attention of the public, government and business.
My next goal is to use this training and my experience to bring art to people on a large scale. Art is a universal language that brings people together.
