Captivated by landscapes, imaginary figures and colours, Monique Wijnschenk has been looking for ways to capture her imaginative ideas ever since she was a child. That path gave her an enormous store of knowledge about materials, with which she can now give shape to her ideas in almost any way. By now it is above all the act of creating itself that matters to Monique.
Setting off into a good story and discovering the things that come her way. Where she eventually arrives, and how she reaches her destination, matters less and less to her.
So I usually let the choice depend on whatever I feel like at that moment.
‘I can render a landscape realistically with a pencil, a pen and ink and watercolour just as easily as completely abstractly in acrylic or alcohol ink. So I usually let the choice depend on whatever I feel like at that moment. For me, that is what being an artist is about. About doing what I feel like and what makes me happy. About allowing an idea to bubble up and giving it form. About following my own passion and pleasure in a world in which we still take ourselves far too seriously far too often.’
